I learned something new last year when my husband and I won a cruise to Alaska -- Summer is the seaon to enjoy fresh caught seafood from Alaska. I particularly enjoyed the tiny bay shrimp, not to mention the Wild Alaskan Salmon. The seafood is caught fresh and shipped overnight on ice. June is the time to stock up because the season for some selections is short. We discovered Alaska Hook & Line Seafoods when we were in Sitka and particularly liked their environmental responsibility. Most of their harvesting is done with hooks and lines, hence the name, and not with damaging nets. The boats are trollers which are small fishing vessels operated by one or two people who fish with a number of lines and hooks baited with herring. This method searches for fish in the open ocean and doesn't disturb the Salmon's migratory route. The volume of Troll-caught Salmon makes up less than 10 percent of the total Alaska catch of all species of Salmon.
